The Power of Meditation with Cancer

The Power of Meditation with Cancer

Meditation is considered to be one of the leading healing practices that is taken on by many around the world. There are many different types of meditations from mindfulness, transcendental, movement, to spiritual meditation. Allowing you the opportunity to take on any type of meditation that you feel is best for you.

Cancer patients go through a great deal during their treatment plan. It is not just mental, but physical as well. This is why it's best to take on meditation. Enabling your body to heal on a mental level and offer some comfort from various symptoms.

The NIH (national institutes of health) suggest you keep four elements in mind when practicing meditation, these are:

  • Quiet - When practicing meditation it's best to take on a quiet place that does not offer any distractions or loud sounds. Furthermore, it's best to practice meditation alone keeping you at bay from any distractions.

  • Comfort - The second essential element is comfort. Apart from a comforting environment, you need to choose comfortable positions that your body allows for. While it's okay to push the barriers a little, avoid taking on positions and postures that cause distress to your body in any manner.

  • Focus - To help contain your mind it's best to focus on a single word or short phrase that you can keep repeating. Only when you cut away distractions thoughts will you be able to achieve a mindful state.

  • Openness - What makes meditation a true delight is its flexibility. If you are unable to hold your thoughts or practice alone in a quiet space let the distractions come and go. Only by creating a judgment free meditation session will you be able to achieve peace.

What Are the Benefits of Meditation For Cancer Patients?

Over the years we have seen many clinical trials of mindfulness-based interventions during cancer treatment and recovery. As it helps you set time aside for yourself, and focus on the present.  Rather than working about the future or overthinking about the past, it's best to focus on healing. Creating a judgment free period helps you let go of self-created issues, and truly focus on what matters the most in life.

Furthermore, the trial showed an improvement in both social and psychological outcomes. Including the reduction of stress, mood elevation, and an overall improvement in the quality of life.
